The recent workshop “Connecting science and innovation: embarking on the road to transformative research” held at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) has concluded with great success. This event, designed to promote knowledge transfer and innovation among doctoral students, has been a clear reflection of the talent and creativity of young researchers at the UIB.
A Showcase of Business Innovation
During the workshop, nine innovative entrepreneurial initiatives were presented by UIB doctoral students. These projects, the result of advanced research, show the transformative potential of applied science in various fields. The variety and quality of the proposals presented highlighted the UIB’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship.
Jury and Outstanding Collaborations
As representatives of the BIOIB Cluster and the Balearic health ecosystem, it was an honor for Cristófol Vidal and Zara Pons to be part of the jury. The collaboration with the University-Business Foundation of the Balearic Islands (FUEIB) and the Doctoral School of the UIB in this initiative underlines the joint effort to promote research and business development in the region.
Special Recognition
Among the projects presented, the jury awarded a special congratulations to Ana Rodríguez Fernández for her outstanding initiative, MANGOSTEETH. This project focuses on the manufacture of candies for the treatment of periodontal diseases using natural active ingredients, offering a promising alternative to conventional chemical treatments.
A special mention was also made to Carmen Raez Meseguer for her EVDERMA project, which proposes innovative cosmetic and aesthetic medicine treatments based on extracellular vesicles. Both projects exemplify how research can lead to practical and beneficial solutions for society.
Commitment to Innovation
This event was organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Innovation and Digital Transformation of the UIB and is framed within the Iemprèn Chair, which demonstrates the UIB’s continued commitment to promoting innovation and knowledge transfer. The synergy between academia and the business sector is essential to boost the economic and social development of the Balearic Islands.
