Call PRIMA 2026 for R&D projects in water, agriculture and agri-food systems

📢 The PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) initiative has launched its 2026 call for proposals to fund R&D projects aimed at solving key challenges in the Mediterranean region.

🎯 The objective is to drive innovative solutions in:

💧 Sustainable water management
🌱 Resilient agricultural systems
🍇 Sustainable agri-food value chains.

The call adopts an integrated approach based on the WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems) model, promoting the interconnection between resources and systems.

🔬 The call is structured in two main open sections:

Section 1 (EU funding): 3 separate topics
Section 2 (national/private funding): 3 topics competing with each other for the budget

Each topic will finance approximately 4 projects, with a budget of around 2.7 million euros per project.

Consortia must meet the following requirements:

At least 4 entities from 4 different countries
Minimum of 3 EU or associated countries + 1 non-EU country
At least 2 entities from southern Mediterranean countries

They can participate:

Universities
Research centers
Companies
Other R&D&I system agents

🗓️ Opening of the call for proposals: March 20, 2026

🗓️ Deadline: May 15, 2026 if a pre-proposal is required (most topics) and June 11 for single-stage calls where a full-proposal must be submitted directly.

💰 Funding per project: ~ €2.7 million

📊 Number of projects funded per topic: ~ 3-4

📌 There are two financing schemes:

Section 1: direct EU funding
Section 2: financing through national agencies (depending on the participating country)
