Health Promotion – “la Caixa” Foundation (1st edition)

Description

🎯 Objective of the call

Proposals are sought that:

  • Addressing relevant health problems with an applied approach

  • Use rigorous and validated methodologies.

  • Integrate, where appropriate, multidisciplinary perspectives

  • Present a clear path to scalability

🧩 Areas of interest (among others):
mental health, women’s health, child and adolescent health, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, healthy aging and management of chronicity.

💰 Grants and financing categories

You can submit projects in three typologies:

🔹 Pilot studies

  • Up to €80,000

  • Maximum duration: 2 years

  • Preliminary studies to assess feasibility

🔹 Retrospective evaluations.

  • Up to €150,000

  • Maximum duration: 2 years

  • Evaluation of effectiveness and impact of existing interventions

🔹 New interventions

  • Up to €300,000

  • Maximum duration: 3 years

  • Development and evaluation of new interventions

📌 Participation mode:

  • Individual (1 organization) or consortium (1 applicant organization + up to 4 collaborators)

  • Participating organizations with no budget (e.g., primary care) and up to 3 non-profit civil society entities (e.g., patient associations) may be included.

❌ C ompanies: they cannot be part of the project as members, but they can receive funds as subcontractors.

Beneficiaries

👥 Beneficiaries and eligibility.

☑️ Host Organization:
Non-profit research organizations located in Spain or Portugal.

☑️ Project Leader:
The principal investigator of the applicant organization must also be the project leader.

☑️ Collaborating organizations:
Non-profit organizations (any country) with activities and associated budget.

📌 Relevant conditions:

  • The PL must have completed the doctoral degree prior to the opening date.

  • The budget of organizations outside Spain/Portugal cannot exceed 30% of the total.

  • The intervention must be performed (or have been performed) in Spain or Portugal.

  • Projects whose results are subject to royalties from for-profit entities prior to closing are not eligible (and the Foundation may reject proposals with a clear benefit to for-profit entities).


🧪 Se lection process

The evaluation includes:

  1. formal eligibility

  2. remote review (preselection)

  3. online evaluation by expert committees (according to typology)

    January 8, 2026, at 14:00 h (CET)

  • Automatic closing:
    February 25, 2026, at 14:00 h (CET).

  • 🔎 Preselection (remote review):
    March – May 2026

  • 💻 O nline evaluation (expert committees):
    June 2026

  • 📢 Communication of selected projects:
    July 2026

  • 🚀 Project implementation:
    September 2026 – December 2029 (according to category)

Budget

💼 O verall budget for the call for proposals

💰 Up to €2,500,000 (subject to final approval)
Distribution intention (indicative):

  • Up to €500,000 for pilot studies

  • Up to €750,000 for retrospective evaluations

  • Up to €1,250,000 for new interventions
    (The final allocation will depend on the quality of the proposals).

📌 A tight budget consistent with the work plan is especially valued.
