The State Research Agency (AEI) has launched the 2026 national call for applications for Industrial Doctoral Programs, aimed at promoting the recruitment of research talent and the transfer of knowledge between academia and the business sector. BOE
These grants provide co-funding for the hiring of a researcher in training for four years to work on a doctoral dissertation linked to an industrial research or experimental development project. The project may be carried out within the organization itself or in collaboration with other public or private organizations. State Investigation Agency
The goal is to strengthen the participating organizations’ capacity for innovation and competitiveness, while encouraging the recruitment of researchers early in their careers. BOE
Companies—including spin-offs and young innovative companies—as well as certain private nonprofit organizations and public administrations that meet the requirements of the call for proposals may apply for this funding. For the latter two categories, R&D&I must not be listed among their purposes or as an activity to be carried out in their articles of incorporation, bylaws, or corporate purpose. Applicant entities must be validly incorporated, have tax residency or a permanent establishment in Spain, and be authorized to hire employees. State Investigation Agency
The submission period runs from September 30 to October 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. —peninsular time—.
The application must be submitted by the interested entity through the AEI’s online application system, with the electronic signature of its legal representative. aei.gob.es
The call for proposals has a total budget of 8 million euros
The grants cover the costs of hiring the researcher, travel expenses for training stays, other project implementation costs, and doctoral tuition. Funding is subject to the limits and percentages established based on the type of institution and project.
