SPTO 2026 grants for patent and utility model applications in Spain and abroad

📢 The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has opened the 2026 call for grants to encourage patent and utility model applications, both in Spain and abroad.

🎯 The objective of this line is to support the protection of inventions of Spanish origin and favor their internationalization, subsidizing part of the fees paid by applicants.

The call is divided into two programs:

International program: for European, international (PCT) or foreign national patent applications.
National program: for Spanish patent and utility model applications.

Application fees
Search reports
Examinations
Concessions
European validations
PCT Proceedings

❗ The filing must be made telematically through the SPTO’s electronic headquarters.

Private non-profit institutions

Individuals
SMEs

In both cases, the applicant entities or individuals must have residence and tax domicile in Spain.

❌ Communities of goods, groupings without legal personality or entities incurring in prohibitions to obtain subsidies may not benefit.

🗓️ Deadline for submission: March 25 to April 24, 2026

📌 Eligible period

International program: expenditures incurred between January 1 and December 31, 2025
National program: applications published in the BOPI in 2023, 2024 and 2025, provided they have not been subsidized before.

📄 Among the required documentation highlights:

Certificate of bank ownership
Responsible declarations
Proof of expenditure and payment in the international program

Total budget: 5,300,000 €.

5,000,000 for overseas applications
300,000 for Spanish applications

💰 Intensity of aid.

International program: up to 80
International program for SMEs and individuals: up to 90%.
National program: up to 90

💰 Maximum aid per applicant

Up to €60,000 in general
Up to €65,000 for SMEs and individuals
