Let's talk about Balearic Islands Health Research Institute Foundation (IdISBa)

IdISBa is a foundation that integrates the main biosanitary and biomedical research centers of the Balearic Islands. It was born in 2013 as IdISPa and adopted its current name in 2017. It is formed by the Regional Ministry of Health, Son Espases University Hospital, Primary Care of Mallorca, IUNICS, Son Llàtzer Hospital and the Blood and Tissue Bank Foundation.

It was accredited in 2019 by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III as a health research institute. It has more than 800 researchers distributed in 55 groups and organized in 7 key scientific areas, ranging from public health to oncology.

It has more than 6,000 m² devoted to research, mainly at the Son Espases Hospital, in addition to other spaces provided by its member entities.

Services / Products

IdISBa offers a diverse organizational structure that provides integral support to biosanitary research through the following areas:

  • Economic-Administrative Management Area: In charge of accounting, purchasing, contracts, human resources and ICT management, as well as infrastructure maintenance.

  • Project Management Area: Advises and manages competitive research projects and collaborations with industry, both public and private.

  • Training and Communication Area: Coordinates training, follow-up of scientific productivity, preparation of reports and institutional communication.

  • Innovation Area: Manages the transfer of research results, technological innovation and support to Ib-Salut business projects.

  • Knowledge Management and Quality Area: Responsible for the analysis of indicators, institutional evaluation and continuous improvement, in addition to providing linguistic support.

  • Infrastructure and Laboratories Area: Manages the facilities and ensures the good condition of the scientific and technical equipment.

  • Scientific Management Area: Acts as a liaison between management and research groups, promoting internal integration and collaboration.

Technology / Patents

IdISBa promotes innovation through its Innovation and Transfer of Research Results Unit (UITRI), which is responsible for managing patents, protecting research results and facilitating collaboration with industry. It has its own system for registering inventions and participates in networks such as the Innovation Network of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the Enterprise Europe Network to promote technology transfer.
