Since 1996 the Fundació Universitat-Empresa de les Illes Balears has been working to encourage, promote and carry out activities aimed, in a generic way, at culture, education and research in all aspects of economic and social life that can contribute to the improvement of the society in which the Foundation is located.
The FUEIB is a non-profit institution with its own legal personality. Among the main actions it carries out are the tasks to bring the university world closer to the working world, the promotion of the university offer through the articulation of postgraduate and specialization courses and its resolution on technological innovation, transfer of research results and creation of technology-based companies.

The University of the Balearic Islands offers companies and institutions a series of technologies and specialized services aimed at solving problems and R+D+Y needs, which have been generated from the knowledge and experience of its research activity. These services are managed by the FUEIB and are related to engineering, specialized consultancy and technical assistance, as well as patents and other specific developments with practical application to the productive sector. The catalog is structured in 8 main areas: Food, Biotechnology and Health; Construction and Architecture; Energy, Environment and Territorial Management; Engineering; Business Management, Legal and Economic Studies; Society; ICT and Software.
For a company, developing a product implies the investment of resources, and these will only be assumed if the company can ensure exploitation benefits, preferably exclusive, that compensate the investment made. In this sense, a patent grants its holder (or the llicensee) the right to exclude third parties from the commercial exploitation of the object protected by the patent, and for this reason the protection of the research results is key in the process of transfer to the market, since a patented technology will have more commercial value than a non-patented one.
Companies can contact the OTRI of the FUEIB to access the different services and technologies of the UIB that it manages, as well as to apply to be llicenciatari of patented technologies.
The scope of services offered by the FUEIB covers a much wider area than the regional area of the Balearic Islands, since it is possible to establish collaboration agreements and sign contracts with companies and institutions from all over the world.
